Sometimes these feats lead to long-standing records which defy all comprehension and conjures envy from rival teams. And, there’s quite a lot of these records that no football team may ever break for as much as a century after they are set.

Today, we look at the longest unbeaten home records held by teams while playing in Europe’s current “Big Five” leagues. These Leagues are the Premier League, German Bundesliga, Spanish La Liga, Italian Serie A, and French Ligue 1.

Here we go!

English Premier League – Chelsea (86 Games):

Owner Roman Abramovich purchased the South-West London club in 2003, and in the following year, he hired the Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho following his exploits with FC Porto.

Chelsea then played 86 home games unbeaten between March 2004 – October 2008. The home record had begun earlier, though, under the previous manager Claudio Ranieri, right around the end of his tenure at the club.

Even after Jose Mourinho was sacked, the record continued. Interim manager Avram Grant continued the run for the duration of his brief stay.

Under Luiz Felipe Scolari, the run came to an end (after 1,462 days) at the hands of Liverpool. A Xabi Alonso goal was enough to earn Liverpool a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge.
